Did you know that New York State leads the nation in cases of children with elevated blood levels?
In fact, 12 percent of the children born in New York in 2019 – 28,820 children – have been diagnosed with elevated blood lead levels. And studies show that Black children living below the poverty line are twice as likely to suffer from lead poisoning as poor white children.
“Families should know if a home contains lead before they move in…”
Fortunately, WE ACT has a solution, but the clock is ticking. WE ACT has until June 6 to convince Albany to pass the New York State Lead Paint Right to Know Act, which will require disclosure of lead-paint test reports in all real estate transactions: buying, selling, or renting. Families should know if a home contains lead before they move in – not after their child suffers from irreparable harm.
You can help by letting Speaker of the New York State Assembly Carl Heastie and Senate President Pro Tempore Andrea Stewart-Cousins know how important it is that the Lead Paint Right to Know Act (S.2353/A.4820) is brought to the floor for a vote in 2024. The 2024 legislative session ends on June 6, 2024.
Not sure what to say? WE ACT got you covered (not in paint)! Use this form to automatically send a pre-drafted letter (or customize it, if you prefer) urging them to bring the Lead Paint Right to Know Act to a vote! ACT TODAY!
Join Us for a Lead Lobby Day in Albany on May 21, 2024.
“WE ACT will prep you beforehand…”
Another way to support the Lead Paint Right to Know Act is to join us in Albany on May 21 to lobby in person. WE ACT will prep you beforehand, provide free transportation (and lunch), and set up the meetings with state legislators. Learn More & RSVP Here!
