City Parks Foundation is proud to present the 2016 season of SummerStage, New York City’s largest free performing arts festival, bringing more than 115 free performances to Central Park and 15 neighborhood parks around the five boroughs!

SummerStage is dedicated to celebrating New York’s rich cultural heritage. Having highlighted hip-hop music and culture in 2013 and salsa and latin music in 2014, this year the festival is thrilled to honor Jazz – a distinctly New York musical form. The season long celebration coincides with the centennial coining of the term “Jazz,”  but also salutes the recent and upcoming 100th birthdays of jazz pioneers Billy Strayhorn, Billie Holiday, Dizzy Gillespie, Thelonious Monk and Ella Fitzgerald, whose work and lives were deeply connected to our city.

Save the date for the first free event of the season on Saturday, June 4 featuring Jazz legends McCoy Tyner, Roy Haynes and Ron Carter. Additional jazz events happening across the five boroughs include Kamasi Washington on June 18, Butler, Bernstein & the Hot 9 on June 25 and Dianne Reeves on July 27.

See the full list of Jazz events here. We look forward to seeing you in the parks this summer!
