Patch reports that a woman was robbed in her Harlem apartment building by a man who was lending her a helping hand, NYPD said.
The woman was carrying her groceries into her apartment building on West 122 Street and Manhattan Avenue Saturday evening when a man approached her and offered to help her carry the bags inside, police said. The man, who has not been identified, entered the building with the woman and carried the groceries into a building elevator, police said.
When the man and woman were in the elevator alone, the fake good samaritan demanded her money, police said. The woman handed over $2 in cash and the man fled the scene, police said. The woman was not harmed during the robbery.
The suspect (pictured above) is described as a man in his 40s standing about 5-foot-10 and weighing around 200 pounds, police said. The man has a mustache and was last seen wearing glasses, a tan hoodie and a multicolored hat, police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
