East Harlem’s Union Settlement Wins Multi-Million Dollar Grant

March 15, 2017

Union Settlement has been selected as one of five New York City organizations to receive a multi-million dollar, multi-year grant from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.

As part of the DA’s Criminal Justice Investment Initiative (“CJII”) in youth and families, the DA awarded Union Settlement up to $10.3 million, including $4 million in capital funding, to create a “Youth Opportunity Hub” in East Harlem. Union Settlement will be the steward for the East Harlem “hub,” working with over 25 other local community-based social services providers to establish a comprehensive support network for at-risk children, teens and young adults in order to prevent them from becoming involved in the criminal justice system.

This incredible grant to Union Settlementt, announced this morning by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr., was part of a larger $58 million investment by the DA’s office in youth and families.

Union Settlement has been serving the East Harlem community since 1895, and we are honored to be chosen to oversee the East Harlem hub. We have assembled a broad coalition of community partners who will be working together to help youth overcome the obstacles they face, and set them on a path to success.
