Hammond B3 guru and National Endowment for the Arts jazz master Dr. Lonnie Smith will headline the gala concert of the 17th CUNY Jazz Festival. The concert will close out the two-day festival which kicks off on Thursday with a master class featuring Jon Gordon (saxophone) , performances by student ensembles from the CUNY school system, and a free 7:30 concert featuring Dr. Lonnie Smith and the CCNY Large Jazz Ensemble.
The final day of the festival, Friday, May 5, will showcase student performances at noon, followed by a free master class by vocalist René Marie, and will wrap with the gala concert featuring the CCNY Student Jazz All-Stars followed by the Dr. Lonnie Smith Trio at 7:30 p.m.
