Original silver gelatin print of American jazz pianist and composer Dave Brubeck as seen through the lens of the iconic photographer. This image is an alternative take from the shoot that produced the iconic cover photograph used on the Dave Brubeck “Eight Classic Albums” collectable box set.
This unsigned, vintage Van Vechten image, features the photographer’s original credit stamp on its verso along with the title “Dave Brubeck,” unique roman numeral archive number “IV MM 21” and printing date “Oct 8, 1958” all in the artist’s hand. Embossed left to center on the front side is a “Photograph by Carl Van Vechten” original ‘blind’ stamp. The photograph measuring approximately 6 x 9.5 inches, printed on a thick weight matte stock, is in fine condition aside from some minor age wear and its original slightly irregularly trimmed edges.
