The guys are swinging on this clip of Count Basie (who lived in Harlem) taped live with Clark Terry (Trumpet) Buddy De Franco (Clatrinet) and Wardell Grey (Tenor Sax) at The Apollo Theater in Harlem, between 1948 and 1950.
This is an exciting recording, the visual recording of the event is sub par, but the audio recording of the men going back and forth in a call in response vibe. The recording is excellent and gives the listener a feeling as if you are an arms distance from the band.
For these two years Basie led a reduced band of between six and nine people, featuring players such as Buddy Rich, Serge Chaloff and Buddy DeFranco.
