Throughout January, the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit will hold free events citywide to provide New Yorkers with individualized and in-person assistance related to tenants’ rights, affordable housing, homelessness prevention and reduction, healthcare, and civic engagement. The Tenant Support Unit (TSU) proactively informs tenants of their housing rights, identifies housing-related issues and connects New Yorkers to a range of resources, including HRA’s anti-eviction legal assistance and HPD’s home repairs program. Learn more: nyc.gov/TenantSupportUnit

The Rent Freeze team proactively helps eligible senior citizens and people with disabilities enroll in the NYC Department of Finance’s rent freeze and homeowner tax exemption programs. Learn more: nyc.gov/rentfreeze

Universal Access to Counsel (UATC), in partnership with HRA’s Office of Civil Justice, proactively identifies New Yorkers facing eviction in housing court and NYCHA proceedings and connects them to free legal assistance. Learn more: nyc.gov/UATC

The Home Support Unit (HSU), in partnership with the NYC Department of Homeless Services, works with landlords and brokers to facilitate the rental of affordable, long-term housing to New Yorkers who are transitioning out of shelter and receive rental subsidies. Learn more: nyc.gov/HomeSupportUnit
