BROWN GIRL BEGINS World Premiere At UrbanWorld Film Festival 2017 (Video)

BROWN GIRL BEGINS, a feature film directed by Sharon Lewis will have its world premiere at the 21st annual URBANWORLD Film Festival in New York City, a five day festival event, sponsored by founding partner, HBO and featuring an array of powerhouses such as Ava DuVernay and Chadwick Boseman.

BROWN GIRL BEGINS, is inspired by Nalo Hopkinson award winning novel, Brown Girl in the Ring. The film, written and also produced by Lewis tells the tale of a dystopian world where the poor are segregated, and ruled over by a cruel sorcerer drug lord, only Ti-Jeanne a reluctant priestess can save them by embracing her ancient Caribbean spirit power.

The film stars Mouna Traoré (Ransom), Emmanuel Kabongo (Hemlock Grove), Shakura S’Aida (Lost Girl), Nigel Shawn Williams (Heroes Reborn), Rachael Crawford (The Expanse), with guest appearances from renowned opera singer Measha Brueggergosman and Calypsonian superstar David Rudder.

Award winning Producers are Vince Buda (Crown and Anchor), Floyd Kane (Jean of the Joneses) and Jenn Paul (Footprints)
