In a new video released today, BronxCrypto co-founder and CEO Julio Barrios urges New York’s Congressional Delegation to support cryptocurrency and the communities that are benefiting from the financial revolution fueled by this transformational technology.
“Crypto is a lifesaver. I hear about women escaping domestic abuse with Bitcoin, small business owners reducing transaction fees with crypto, Bronx natives building generational wealth with crypto,” Barrios says in the video.
Barrios praises Congressman Ritchie Torres (D-Bronx) and US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) for their leadership and support for policies that promote consumer protection without jeopardizing innovation. He goes on to call for an “all hands on deck” approach, encouraging House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortes, Harlem‘s Adriano Espaillat, Nydia Velázquez, Jerry Nadler, and the rest of New York’s elected officials, to join their colleagues in supporting thoughtful regulation of the crypto space.
Barrios, “Bitcoin and crypto are tickets to financial freedom, independence, and access to the American dream for communities that have been shut out for too long. Latino and Black communities in the Bronx have been underserved and they’ve been underestimated.”
“Too much of the narrative is about regulation and not about the real people, the real stories, and the homegrown innovators,” Barrios goes on to say.
“Entrepreneurs in the Bronx are doing amazing things with NFTs and web3 technologies. It is time for our elected officials and politicians to pay attention. In the Bronx, Ritchie Torres has our backs and New York’s US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is a leader on the topic. We need the whole Congressional Delegation to take note and stand up for us. Hakeem Jeffries, AOC, Adriano Espaillat, Nydia Velázquez, Jerry Nadler, everyone. All hands on deck,” Barrios says.
