Thanks to the folks at HipHopDX they’re reporting that Big L’s family have launched Big L Life, a new lifestyle and merchandise website created to honor the Harlem lyricist and continue his legacy.
“It’s time to celebrate Big L the right way,” the website’s bio states. “The Big L Estate launches BIGLLIFE.COM, a Lifestyle website in honor of Hip Hop Legend Lamont ‘Big L’ Coleman.”
The family hopes the website will help introduce Diggin’ In The Crates member’s music to a younger generation of listeners.
“BIGLLIFE.COM is a website dedicated to continuing Big L’s legacy by introducing his music to the younger generation. The site will also include an official line of merchandise authorized by Big L’s Family.”
The collection features t-shirts, hoodies, hats and headbands, the majority of which have Big L emblazoned on the front.
Proceeds from the merchandise sold will go towards funding afterschool programs in Harlem and throughout New York City.
Big L was shot and killed on February 15, 1999. Although his murder remains unsolved, authorities – as well as many who know him – have long believed his killer to be Gerard Woodley. Woodley was a close friend of Big L’s brother, Leroy “Big Lee” Phinazee, and is alleged to have enacted revenge on Big L following a dispute with his family.
Woodley died at Harlem Hospital in June 2016 after being shot in the head at nearby 106 W. 139th St.
