Saturday, February 8, 2014 1PM-5PM
Sunday, February 9, 2014 Education events: 2PM-4PM Concert at 5PM
In celebration of African-American History Month and our 80th Anniversary, the Apollo Theater will open its doors for a FREE WEEKEND to give visitors an understanding of our rich history, a preview of our future activities, and an honoring of a few of the “family members” that have helped us get to this point.
On Saturday, February 8, we’ll journey through time, rejoicing in the diversity of genres that make the Apollo special. The afternoon will feature live performances from past contestants of our signature series, Amateur Night; music and acts from RhythmAndSoulRadio.com; and multi-media presentations on the Apollo’s history. Neither tickets nor RSVPs are required for Saturday’s free events in our main theater.
On Sunday, February 9, the Apollo’s Education Department presents a vocal music workshop for families that both explains and honors the tradition of the Negro Spirituals. Space for this activity is limited and pre-registration, beginning in 2014 via ApolloEducation.org, is strongly suggested. This workshop will be followed by a rousing concert!
