Man Screamed ‘I Want To Die’ Before Touching Third Rail At Harlem Subway Station

July 7, 2017

A man electrocuted at a Harlem subway station desperately wanted to die and laid on the tracks before the fatal contact with the third rail, police sources said Friday.

“I want to die!” witnesses heard the 30-year-old man scream repeatedly before he jumped on the uptown 4 train tracks at the 125th St./Lexington Ave. station about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

He then laid on the tracks, his arms crossed on his chest, before deliberately touching the third rail, horrified witnesses said.

“Man just electrocuted himself on @MTA third rail at 125th and Lex – this is insane,” commuter Juan Restreppo tweeted Thursday. “Operator was frantically asking to have power turned off.”

The unhinged straphanger died at the scene, officials said. His name was not immediately disclosed.

No trains were in the station when the man was electrocuted.

Trains were temporarily re-routed as police investigated.
