On Thursday February 23rd, Win (formerly Women in Need) will host an all-day event at one of its Harlem shelters dedicated to STEM education for more than 20 children during their school break.
Students ages 6 and up will have the opportunity to play Minecraft, the popular computer game, which incorporates elements of STEM in its gameplay, as well as several STEM based board games. Win will partner with MetLife, who will provide the Minecraft videogame and additional computers for the students to use.
This event is part of Win’s Camp Win, a ten-week specialized day camp, that serves more than 1,000 homeless children during school breaks and the summer – helping school-age children maintain their educational focus.
The event will begin at 10:00am. Children will be split into two groups, with one group playing Minecraft and the other focusing on STEM-based board games.
Win is the largest provider of shelter for homeless women and children in New York City, serving nearly 10,000 homeless people in the past year.
