A number of advocacy groups — led by the Coalition to End Broken Windows — are planning to crash Mayor Bill de Blasio’s big night in Harlem. De Blasio will be giving his annual “State of the City” speech Monday night at the Apollo Theater, but out in front of the theater
While De Blasio gives his annual “State of the City” speech Monday night at the Apollo Theater, protesters will crowd the front of the Harlem landmark and call of people to #ResistDeBlasio.
“Mayor Bill de Blasio’s continued commitment to Broken Windows policing hurts communities of color everyday, putting immigrants at risk. His housing agenda doesn’t protect gentrification–it fuels it,” reads an event hosted by the Coalition to End Broken Windows.
Joining the coalition in protest will be groups such as Why Accountability, El Grito De Sunset Park, The Brooklyn Anti-gentrification Network – BAN (BAN), Police Reform Organizing Project (PROP), El Barrio Unite, Answer Coalition, Equality for Flatbush and Youth Against Displacement, according to a Facebook event page for the protest.
The protesters will be rallying for real investments into neighborhoods of color and housing development for working class families and against what they call De Blasio’s “affordable housing scam,” and “police state.”
