You Can Take The M Train For A Throwback MTA Ride This Holiday Season

November 28, 2016

21603903-mmmainHey Harlem, you take a trip back in time by boarding old Metropolitian Transit Authority (MTA) subway trains this holiday season.

As part of the MTA’s annual holiday tradition, subway customers can take a ride on The Holiday Nostalgia Train along the M line between Queens and Manhattan. The vintage fleet is made up of eight subway cars that were in service from 1932 to 1977.

Trains are decked out with ceiling fans, padded seats, drop-sash style windows, roll signs and incandescent light bulbs. The train is usually on display at the Transit Museum.

“We owe a great deal to these City Cars, because they were durable work horses that remained in our fleet for 40 years,” said Wynton Habersham, NYC Transit’s Senior Vice President of Subways. “They are the foundation of every subway car we have designed since, and they continue to serve as a reminder of our past and how far we have come in design and customer comfort.”

Although some New Yorkers remember the trains while they were in service, many have never experienced the vintage trains that have been out of service for more than 30 years.

“Our customers love riding these vintage classics every year, and we love showing them off,” Habersham said to a source.

They will run every Sunday for four weeks: it started on November 27th, to run December 4th, 11th and 18th, 2016.

The first train leaves Second Avenue at 10:05 a.m. and the last train leaves Queens Plaza at 4:44 p.m., making all the M line stops in between.

Here’s the schedule for the trains:

Leaving 2nd Ave.: 10:05 a.m., 11:13 a.m., 1:03 p.m., 2:33 p.m., 4:03 p.m.

Leaving Queens Plaza: 10:44 p.m., 12:14 p.m., 1:44 p.m., 3:14 p.m., 4:44 p.m.
