Up to $626 is available to help New Yorkers heat their homes this winter, and applications will be accepted for the federally funded Home Energy Assistance Program starting on Monday, according to a news release from Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s office.
The money is available for elderly and low- and moderate-income New Yorkers, depending on a household’s income, size and heating source, according to the news release. A family of four must make less than $53,076 a year to qualify for the aid, according to the news release.
Applications can be filled out at the program’s website or at local social service departments. The news release said $325 million in total is available for New Yorkers.
More than 1.4 million households in New York got heating assistance through the program last year, including nearly 60,000 in Central New York, 135,000 in Western New York and 66,000 in the Capital Region (765,002 in New York City and 335,109 in Harlem).
