October 7, 2016

img_6074-1475867540-5145Subway riders that rely on taking the 6 train from East Harlem into the Bronx are in for a rough two-week stretch in October. In order to make repairs via the MTA’s FASTRACK program, 6 train service will be suspended between the 125th Street station in Harlem and Hunts Point in the Bronx.

The service suspensions will occur from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on October 17-21st, 2016 and again on Oct 24-28, according to an MTA press release. While the MTA is making repairs 6 train service will continue to run within Harlem and the Bronx, but not between the two boroughs.

For riders that rely on the 6 train to get between the Bronx and Harlem, the MTA will set up a free shuttle service, according to the press release. The shuttle will pick people up at 125th Street or Hunts point and make stops at Longwood Avenue, East 149 Street, East 143 Street-St. Mary’s Street, Cypress Avenue, Brook Avenue, and 3 Avenue-138 Street.

The last time the MTA made FASTRACK repairs on this part of the 6 line was in January 2015, according to our source.

“FASTRACK has proven to have a significant impact on decreasing delays – both in terms of consolidating maintenance forces in a concentrated area and in terms of proactive maintenance that improves service delivery,” said Wynton Habersham, senior vice president for the Department of Subways, in a statement.
