Levine: Parks Committee Chair Mark Levine Hails New Parks Funding

January 22, 2016

mark levine 2Safety and maintenance are the foundations of a truly open and thriving parks system. It’s welcome news that the Mayor has proposed an increase in vitally needed funding for additional PEP officers in his preliminary budget proposal. PEP officers are the most common expense request my office hears from park users, and this investment will enhance security while providing solid new jobs.

“I am concerned that the budget as currently proposed would cut 150 maintenance workers and gardeners that are crucial to sustaining quality parks in low- to moderate-income neighborhoods. As the budget process continues, I will be strongly advocating for restoration of this funding.  I will also be pushing for expanded capital investments in the mid-sized, anchor parks throughout our city which have been too often left behind.
