just food conference 2016Dear Harlem Just Food Supporters, 2016 Just Food Conference, which will be held Sunday, March 13, 2016 at Teachers College, Columbia University, in partnership with the Laurie M. Tisch Center for Food, Education & Policy.

Just Food seeks proposals for both: Workshops, which are 90 minutes long, are offered once during the morning or afternoon session, and will be held in classrooms that range from 30-100 people in capacity; and

Campaign Action Sessions, which are 45 minutes long, and will be offered twice (back-to-back) during the lunch period, in classrooms that range from 30-100 people in capacity. Campaign Action Sessions discuss a current campaign for equitable food policy, and give attendees a concrete way to take immediate action or get involved.

You can find more information about the topics and speakers featured at the 2015 Just Food Conference here.
Workshop proposals are due by December 21, 2015. You will be notified in late January if your workshop has been selected. Just Food will select proposals based on overall demand for the topic, classroom capacity, and alignment with the following conference objectives:
    • Highlight community-driven efforts to tackle racial and economic inequities in our food system
    • Feature diverse speakers who don’t often have a mainstream platform
    • Offer concrete tools, skills, and learning opportunities relevant to grassroots groups
    • Educate attendees about current strategies and opportunities to advocate for equitable food policy

Please note that Just Food does not have a budget to pay speaker honorariums or to cover travel expenses. All speakers are, however, invited to attend the full conference day as our guests. (Tickets cost $65 each and include breakfast and lunch.)

For questions or more information, contact Robin Burger at robin@justfood.org. On behalf of all of us at Just Food, thank you for your interest and we look forward to reading your proposal!

If you don’t have your own workshop to propose, but have a great idea for a speaker or a topic that you’d like to see at the Just Food Conference, please submit your suggestions here.
