It’s Saturday, October 31st, 2015, Halloween. Masquerade, costumes, poetry, music, and brief scenes from plays are not what one would expect from the Bronx Museum, but when urban and inner-city writers gather from all corners of the country, many surprises are in store.
UBAWA, the Urban Book Author and Writers of America, chose the Bronx Museum to highlight their bevy of authors, some having written upwards of 15 titles or having been writing over 15 years, like myself. Running the gamut from award winning, Christian Fic…tion by Nigeria Lockley, to Street Lit by Sonovia Alexander, to urban family saga by A. L. Smith, to Urban Paranormal by Ny’Chel Dior, no two authors were alike.
“I had been writing since I was very young,” says NyChel Dior. “I survived a tragic fire, but lost my cousin. Writing has been my outlet ever since.” Dior, now age 23, also shared that she stays productive by the constant support of her “writing sisters,” Michelle V. Mitchell and Sonovia Alexander.
The UBAWA Book Fair was organized by book promoter Danielle Leach of Jackson, FL, who plans to take this book fair to major cities across the country. For more information, including a complete list of participating authors, check out their website, www.UBAWA.org.
