Disrupt Harlem PitchTank Competition In Harlem

disrupt harlemOn Tuesday, September 22, 2015, the Harlem Business Alliance (HBA) leadership, HBA members, elected officials, lenders and entrepreneurs will gather together at the Harlem Hospital Mural Pavilion for Disrupt Harlem 2015, sponsored by Columbia University, Verizon, City National Bank and the Harlem Community Development Corporation.

The Summit will take place between 5:30 and 9:30 pm for an evening of insights including a keynote presentation, Innovation & Black Entrepreneurs panel, the Disrupt Harlem PitchTank competition, and a networking reception.”We want to encourage minority entrepreneurs to think outside of the box, and to look for new ways to grow their ideas into lucrative and sustainable businesses. At HBA, we believe that small businesses build thriving communities and that continuous growth is not possible without innovation” says Regina L. Smith, Executive Director of the Harlem Business Alliance.

This year’s keynote speaker is Jessica Matthews, Co-Founder of Uncharted Play and one of Forbes’ 2014 “The 30 Under 30.” Our Innovation & Black Entrepreneurs panel will focus on solutions for fostering innovation, moderated by Matthew Mitchell of the New York Times, will include speakers Rachel Brooks of, Brittany Dandy of Black Enterprise Magazine & LiveDndy.com, and Anthony Frasier of The Phat Startup.
New to the Innovation Summit is the Disrupt Harlem 2015 Pitchtank competition. Pitch your business in under 2 minutes to a panel of esteemed judges including Corey Neufville Media Solutions Manager at Facebook, Clayton Banks of Silicon Harlem, and Blair Duncan General Counsel of the Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone. The winner will be named “Harlem’s Most Disruptive Business” and receive the grand prize of $1,500, a 6 month membership to Creative Workspace @HBA, and business mentorship. All pitch competition applications are due by MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14 @ 5:00PM.
