The Rio III Gallery at Sugar Hill is pleased to present a special a Live Art and Music Experience, featuring the musical talents of jazz legend Ms. Marjorie Eliot, and the inspired paintings of award-winning visual artist Andrea Arroyo. This event is presented in conjunction with Ms. Arroyo’s current art exhibition “A Rose in Harlem,” which honors the diverse beauty of historic and contemporary women of the area, on view through August 20th at the recently inaugurated Rio III Gallery in the iconic Sugar Hill building designed by acclaimed architect David Adjaye.
Featured in the exhibition are two pieces, titled “Ms. Marjorie” and “Take the A Train”, which were created during Eliot and Arroyo’s previous live artistic collaborations. These long, flowing scrolls feature Arroyo’s large-scale, free hand drawings, which were inspired by Ms. Eliot’s entrancing selection of jazz on the piano. The pieces hang suspended from the ceiling, forming long wave-like shapes that evoke music and movement, and bring to mind the history and community around the Harlem River.
