The 2015 Summer Stage in Harlem series of free concerts and events that will be presented on Thursdays from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building at 163 West 125th Street in Harlem.
This year’s series will begin on Thursday, July 9 with a kick-off celebration at the Adam Clayton Powell plaza.
“The Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building in Harlem is the perfect location to showcase the diverse music, fashion, and talent that exists in this community,” New York State Office of General Services (OGS) Commissioner RoAnn Destito said. “We are excited to continue this tradition of free Thursday evening concerts, and this summer’s amazing lineup of entertainment is not to be missed.”
July 9: Kick-Off Celebration
Summer Stage officially kicks off with live music featuring Legacy, Loveparq, Anthony Flammia and Brooklyn Ed Line Dancing. Stop by and get your summer started off in style.
July 16: Harlem Dances
A thrilling night of eclectic dance performances, art, and choreography featuring SKIN Dance Company, Millennium Dance Company, Uptown Dance Academy, Full Force Dance Repertory, and Dwana Smallwood Performing Arts Center. From modern to ballet, African to step, this night showcases the diversity of talent in the community.
July 23: Soul Night
Summer Stage in Harlem sizzles to the rhythm of one of America’s most popular music genres. Sit back and relax, or get up and dance to the music of Gedeon Luke and The People, Taína Asili and la Banda Rebelde (the Rebel Band), and New York City’s own 212 Green.
July 30: Fashion Night
With a spotlight on multi-talented Harlem based designers, this is an event not to be missed. Featuring J. Love School of Fashion Etiquette, Her Game 2, Malchijah Hats, and Designs by Mr. Witherspoon.
August 6: R&B Night
Enjoy a beautiful night at Summer Stage in Harlem listening to the smooth R&B sounds of Avery Sunshine, Shaine, and Camille.
August 13 Jazz Night
Beloved by people for more than 100 years, Jazz spans decades of improvisation, instrumental virtuoso, and evolving tunes and rhythm. Performances by Alyson Williams, Manny’s Boogaloo Crew, and Stephanie Jeannot.
August 20: African Culture Night
An evening of great music with an international flair. Taking the stage will be Asase Yaa, IfeTayo, Akoko Nante Ensemble, and African Love Institute.
August 27: Gospel Night
Capping off the 2015 Summer Stage in Harlem series is an evening of inspiring gospel, featuring the amazing talents of Bishop Hezekiah Walker, Juda Camp, Reverend Kennedy and the New Hope Community Choir, June and the Sionettes, The Mama Foundation Youth Choir, and Evangelist Talitha Cumi.
All events are free and open to the public. Please bring your own chair.
