Yesterday comedian, musician, first black cast member on the original “Saturday Night Live” and Karate Black Belt Garrett Morris (CBS’ 2 Broke Girls), stopped by The Juice to chat with full of smiles host Alyson Charles. Morris discussed the SNL cast, how karate saved his life and his newly released album, Black Creole Chronicles—he even sang an original ditty for Alyson and the audience.
Garrett Morris Harlem fact: In 1958 on the way home from a National Association of Negro Musicians’ music competition, Morris took a detour to New York City. There, Morris joined the Harlem YMCA Drama Club, which counted among its members actress Cicely Tyson. Soon after arriving in New York, Morris received his first big career break when he auditioned for the Harry Belafonte Singers and was hired as a soloist for ten years.
