bb.q Chicken Brings ‘Taste Of Korea’ To Democracy Prep In Harlem

November 25, 2024

bb.q Chicken, Korea’s Finest Fried Chicken™, partnered with Democracy Prep Harlem High School to provide its 370 students and 60 staff members with a “Taste of Korea” on November 21, 2024.

To bring the school’s commitment to cultural education to life, bb.q Chicken provided traditional Korean -style nutrition-focused meals with four pieces of boneless chicken, rice, bread (for a build-your-own sandwich option), a sotteok-sotteok skewer (a popular Korean street food with sausage and rice cakes), kimchi slaw, pickled radish and three newly-launched sauces: galbi mayo, hot mayo and hot honey.

“… we believe that food is the gateway to all cultures …”

“At bb.q Chicken, we believe that food is the gateway to all cultures, so Democracy Prep’s ‘Taste of Korea’ event was a wonderful opportunity to bring their students’ learnings to life through an authentic Korean meal, ” said Joseph Kim, bb.q Chicken’s CEO. “It was a privilege to see students and teachers alike expressing interest in both our culture and food.”

The meals were safely prepared, packaged and delivered directly to the school from bb.q Chicken’s location on 3rd Avenue, which is managed by bb.q Chicken’s headquarters. This ensured all standard food safety protocols were followed and allowed students to get a true “Taste of Korea” without sacrificing quality or flavor. With a blend of culinary tradition and education, the event allowed students and teachers to savor authentic Korean tastes while deepening their appreciation for the culture at no cost to them.

Following this experience, students will engage in a comparative analysis of American and Korean school lunches, focusing on aspects such as nutrition, variety and inclusivity. As a final project, students will present their findings and advocate for multicultural menu options by drafting a formal letter to the NYC Department of Education. To show its support for the initiative and demonstrate its commitment to education and cultural exchange, bb.q Chicken will be providing a scholarship to fund the project.
