Carlos Velazquez, Executive Director, of the Police Athletic League in New York City was recognized on the prestigious 2024 City & State Power of Diversity: Latino 100 List.
These dedicated individuals represent leaders from a variety of sectors who all possess an incredible and innate passion for innovation, culture, and community leadership within the Latino community. City & State Power of Diversity: Latino 100 tracks the trajectories of the most influential Latino leaders. Honorees were profiled in City & State Magazine on September 16th, 2024.

“I am honored to be recognized on the City & State Power of Diversity: Latino 100 List among these distinguished New Yorkers,” said Carlos Velazquez, Executive Director, Police Athletic League. “This award reflects the outstanding work of PAL staff throughout the City. Since its inception in 1914, PAL has remained steadfast in its mission to nurture and empower our youth. We continue to expand our connections and vital partnerships within our communities in order to remain a safe haven where youth can emerge as our future leaders.” Born and raised in East Harlem, Carlos became PAL’s Executive Director in 2022.
For over two decades, Carlos’ holistic and practical approach to program-building has left a profound impression upon inner-city communities across New York City. He has worked with a wide range of partners within the youth development, education, law enforcement and justice systems including NYPD, FDNY, Department of Youth and Community Development and the NYC District Attorney’s Office. Carlos currently serves on the Board of Directors of LaSalle Academy, an all-boys’ parochial high school in Manhattan, and Bank Street College of Education. He is a licensed social worker having earned both a Master of Social Work and a Bachelor of Science from Syracuse University and holds a Master of Education from Bank Street College.
Founded in 1914, New York City’s Police Athletic League is a nonprofit organization that provides recreational, educational, cultural and social activities to 15,000 children and teens annually.
