Harlem Celebrates Rise Up NYC With Keith Sweat, Meli’sa Morgan, Force MD’s, And Kurtis Blow, And More (Video)

On Saturday, August 3rd, 2024, NYC Mayor Eric Adams and the Apollo Theater transformed Harlem’s 125th Street into an outdoor theater to kick off the Rise Up NYC concert series.

At the heart of the celebration was Harlem-born R&B/Soul legend Keith Sweat, who returned to his roots for a special performance.

Sweat was honored with the Entertainer’s Key to NYC, marking a significant moment in his illustrious career.

Keith Sweat: A Musical Icon

Keith Sweat’s journey in the music industry began in the late 1980s, and he has since released numerous hit songs that have become timeless classics.

With a career spanning over three decades, Sweat’s smooth vocals and heartfelt lyrics have captivated audiences worldwide.

Hits like “Twisted,” “Nobody,” and “Make It Last Forever” have solidified his place as one of the most influential R&B artists of our time.

Celebrating the Apollo’s 90th Anniversary

The event also celebrated the 90th anniversary of the iconic Apollo Theater, a cultural landmark in Harlem.


The festivities featured amazing performances by Meli’sa Morgan, DJ Holiday, Force MDs, Ice T, and Kurtis Blow, adding to the vibrant atmosphere on 125th Street.

A Community United

Rise Up NYC’s event on 125th Street between Frederick Douglass Blvd and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd invited all New Yorkers to join the celebration.

The free concert, which began with doors opening at 4 pm and showtime at 5 pm EST, was a testament to the enduring spirit and cultural richness of Harlem.
