Getting Out and Staying Out (GOSO): Celebrating its 20th anniversary, GOSO has developed a comprehensive program focused on the prevention, intervention, and support of young people aged 16 to 24. SAVE operates under the principles of Cure Violence, employing community members, particularly those affected by gun violence, for outreach. GOSO’s community-based services emphasize education, employment, and emotional well-being through mental health and social services.
Since its inception in 2004, GOSO has empowered over 12,000 young individuals to reach their potential. Based in Harlem, GOSO offers a variety of reentry programs, including supportive counseling, educational pathways, job training, paid internships, and job placements. These initiatives aim to reduce gun violence, promote self-sufficiency, and ensure the educational and career stability of participants, enhancing both their mental and physical well-being.
GOSO’s dedicated team of credible messengers, seasoned professionals, and experienced social workers has made it one of New York City‘s most effective programs. Impressively, fewer than 15% of GOSO participants return to jail, a stark contrast to the national average of 67%. For more information, visit the GOSO website.
