In a poignant tribute to the late DJ Kay Slay, Harlem’s iconic Apollo Theater will set the stage for a farewell befitting a Hip-Hop luminary.
Following his valiant battle with COVID-19, the legendary spinner will be remembered in a public viewing and memorial on Sunday, April 24th, 2024, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Attendees will gather to honor Kay Slay’s remarkable journey, from his humble beginnings in East Harlem to his international acclaim as a pioneering force in the Hip-Hop scene.
The service will feature heartfelt words, scripture readings, and musical selections, paying homage to the enduring legacy of a true icon.
Born Keith Grayson on August 14, 1966, Kay Slay’s passion for Hip-Hop blossomed amidst the vibrant streets of Harlem.
From his early days as a graffiti artist to his mastery of the turntables, he embodied the essence of the culture in every aspect of his life.
As the city’s crackdown on graffiti intensified, Kay Slay’s artistic evolution took flight, leading him to embrace the art of DJing with fervor.
His mixtapes became legendary, solidifying his status as one of Hip-Hop’s most revered figures.
In the words of his obituary, “Keith Grayson, P.K.A. DJ Kay Slay, was born in New York City and raised in East Harlem.”
His journey from the Bronx River Center to the global stage serves as a testament to his unwavering dedication and unparalleled talent.
As the curtain falls on this chapter, VIBE extends its deepest condolences to DJ Kay Slay’s family, friends, and countless fans.
Though his physical presence may be gone, his spirit will continue to resonate through the beats and rhymes of Hip-Hop for generations to come.
