On January 26, 2024, from 3 PM to 6 PM EST, the vibrant community of Harlem will gather at PS 007, 160 E. 120th St., for a crucial event spearheaded by State Senator Cordell Cleare.
Joined by State Senator Jose M. Serrano, community leader Keith Lily, Patricia Burns (Tenant Association President), and other esteemed community partners, the event aims to support the ‘New New Yorkers’—migrants and asylum-seekers who have recently made Harlem their home.
In the spirit of community collaboration, Senator Cleare’s office, along with local businesses, is organizing a resource fair offering essential assistance. Donated coats, toys, and food will be distributed, ensuring that the new arrivals have the support they need. The event will also feature health screenings, legal information sessions, and various other forms of assistance.
As the winter season persists, this marks the third initiative led by Senator Cleare’s office to address the challenges faced by new migrants. With thousands of individuals striving to establish themselves in Harlem, the event takes on added significance.
“My office fields countless requests from migrants in need of urgent assistance,” stated Senator Cleare. “While we appreciate the $2.4 billion that Governor Hochul has requested to set aside for the State’s migrants, it is equally important that the ‘new’ New Yorkers, who have chosen to call my district home, are considered for funding.”
