Authorities are currently investigating a car accident that occurred on the FDR Drive early 6:27 a.m. on Christmas Eve, Sunday morning, resulting in a person being sent into the Harlem River.
According to the police, a 23-year-old woman was driving northbound on the FDR when her vehicle collided with a barrier near 102nd Street. Subsequently, the car became engulfed in flames, prompting the driver to jump into the Harlem River.
Emergency responders successfully extracted the victim from the water near East 106th Street. She was then transported to NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center and is reported to be in stable condition.
Details regarding whether the victim was on fire and if that prompted her decision to jump into the river remain unclear.
The incident is currently under investigation by authorities.
