By Marquis A. Harrison, Chairperson, Community Board 10
Dear Board Members and Residents of Community Board 10, I hope this letter finds you well and you are enjoying your summer.
I am writing to provide an update on the decision of Judge Shahabuddeen A. Ally, who ruled regarding the proposed cannabis dispensary on 125th Street. The decision outlined that CB10 needs to provide its opinion on the proposed location of the dispensary, underscoring the importance of our voices and the impact we can have on crucial matters within our community.
Judge Ally’s ruling acknowledges and supports the role of community boards as advocates for the well-being and character of our neighborhoods. It affirms that the opinions and recommendations put forth by community boards should carry substantial weight when it comes to determining the establishment of dispensaries and similar businesses. This is a significant step forward in recognizing the invaluable contributions we make as representatives of Community Board 10.
In light of this decision, I need to inform you that Community Board 10 has filed for a 30-day extension to provide our official opinion on the proposed cannabis dispensary. This extension allows us a new opportunity to gather valuable insights and feedback from the public, ensuring that we have a comprehensive understanding of the diverse perspectives within our community. We have prepared a survey designed to elicit public feedback on this matter. I have attached the survey to this email, and I encourage each of you to participate and share it widely within our community. Your responses will enable us to better understand your concerns, priorities, and aspirations regarding the potential establishment of the cannabis dispensary on 125th Street.
In addition to the survey, we have created a public comment form that allows community members and stakeholders to submit statements electronically. Your input and insights are vital in helping us form an informed opinion that accurately represents the desires and needs of our community.
Please find the link to the public comment form here
We will review comments and statements until August 9th, 2023.
I am pleased to announce that on August 3, 2023, Manhattan Community Board 10 will be hosting a public comment forum exclusively dedicated to the proposed cannabis dispensary on 125th Street. The forum will take place on Zoom, ensuring accessibility for all interested parties. We believe this virtual setting will facilitate a broader and more inclusive discussion among community members. Further details and instructions on how to join the forum will be provided closer to the event. We strongly encourage all residents, business owners, and stakeholders to participate in the upcoming public hearings and express their thoughts and concerns regarding the establishment of the cannabis dispensary on 125th Street. Your active involvement will help shape our community’s stance on this matter and further amplify our collective voice.
Please stay tuned for announcements regarding the scheduled public hearings and opportunities for public input. We will ensure that the necessary information is shared widely through our community channels, including our website, social media platforms, and local publications.
Lastly, CB10 members are being asked to hold the date of August 10th, 2023, as we will need to gather in person for a vote on what opinion we will provide to the Office of Cannabis Management. The date and time will be forthcoming.
Let us seize this moment to come together, engage in meaningful dialogue, and demonstrate the strength and unity of our community. Together, we can ensure that our voices are heard and that the future of our neighborhood aligns with the vision we collectively hold.
Thank you for your ongoing support and dedication to the betterment of Community Board 10. We look forward to your active participation in this important process.
