Fall is just around the corner, so winter is not too far away, either! But with the fluctuating temperatures comes the uncertainty of how to dress.
You wake up in the morning when the temperatures are still chilly, and you pick up your pumpkin spice latte on your way to work. Meanwhile, by the time you leave work for the day, the temperatures have risen 30 degrees. Suddenly, you realize that the cute layered fall look you were rocking today is not as appropriate as it was that morning. So what is a person to do? That is where the glory of layering comes in. In the mornings, just throw on a few extra layers and you will be ready to take on the morning. When afternoon and evening time rolls around, those additional layers can start to go. To make the most of this season, we are discussing a few must-have basics to add to your wardrobe today, including a kimono, blazer, scarf, boots, or camisole. These pieces will be your best friend this year while you are trying to adapt to mother nature’s mood swings.
Kimono
Let us start with a kimono. Kimonos are fun, easy basics that can be thrown on with a dress, t-shirt, or blouse. Kimonos are a traditional Japanese garment and the national dress of Japan. The kimono is a wrapped-front garment with square sleeves and a rectangular body.
While they are old garments that the Japanese have worn for years, they have recently been making a comeback for women to wear as an everyday piece. Kimonos are generally either 100 percent cotton or silk. They come in various colors and patterns and usually have a beautifully embroidered design on the piece. Kimonos can be layered over a casual t-shirt with jeans and sneakers or dressed in a fun dress and wedges. This allows you to take off the kimono if the weather starts to heat up, or you can leave it on if there is a cold chill in the air. Kimonos are beautifully crafted articles that are loved by many and are perfect for your fall wardrobe this year.
Blazer
Blazers are another great throw-on-and-go option when the weather can not make up its mind. A blazer can be worn with a t-shirt for a casual look, but the blazer takes it up a notch! Blazers can also be worn over cute summer dresses as a transition piece or worn with a blouse and slacks for a professional, work-appropriate look. Throw on a pair of flats or even some boots to complete the look you can take day to night.
Scarf
Who does not love a good scarf? They are an added accessory, similar to a necklace or earrings, and can really bring an outfit together. Or, if you aree working with a more neutral outfit, a scarf can add that pop of color or dimension that would otherwise be just a ho-hum look. Scarfs are also great because they can be worn around the neck, used as a headband in the hair, or as a belt with jeans or pants. Scarfs can also be tied to a purse or handbag for a little extra oomph.
Camisole
Camisoles are another must-have layering piece. They can be worn under a blouse or top for some extra warmth or length, or on their own. And if you agree in a place where the weather can transition quickly throughout the day, camisoles are great to throw on and pair with a kimono, cardigan, or blazer. Camisoles can be found in nearly any color and are comfortable to boot. Throw on any shoe, from knee-high riding boots to sandals, and you will be set.
Riding Boots
Riding boots are nothing new to the fashion scene, and they are not just for ranchers anymore. Riding boots make a great shoe option when you are not too certain of what is ahead. For cooler weather, pair your riding boots with jeans or leggings, throw on a t-shirt and kimono, or a fun blouse or sweater. Boots can also be worn with a fall dress, providing a little more protection from the elements while still looking like a star in a dress.
Regardless of what style or items you end up with this fall, just try to remember to keep it versatile! Nothing is worse than buying new clothing, only to realize it can be worn for just a few days out of a season. Instead, see what pieces you have from last season that could still work, then purchase a few new pieces to add to the mix. This will make you feel like you have a wardrobe worth a million bucks! And you do not have to start completely from scratch to get there. Find the pieces you love, and wear them with confidence!
