aids blanket installation shotHarlem World Magazine and InJoy Enterprises, in partnership with the Emblem Health Care will host a Town Hall information session about how the new Affordable Care Act will affect artists (visual, performers, actors, dancers, musicians, designers, etc.,) ……as independent contractors and how artists can and will benefit on Saturday, December 7th at the Emblem Health Neighborhood Care Center, from 2 pm to 4 pm , 215 West 125th Street, Harlem, NY (www.ehnc.com/Locations/Harlem.aspx). Admission is Free.

As artists, we need to take care of ourselves, so that we can ultimately take care of each other. Now, more than ever, is a time where we need to be strong and make our voices heard. We deserve SO MUCH BETTER as the people responsible for bringing the CULTURE, COMMUNITY, and ECONOMY that makes NYC and so many major cities such incredible places to live. Artists are SMART, HARD-WORKING, PASSIONATE people, and the world needs to know that.

The time is now to find out how to obtain health coverage and financial help to pay for it. Emblem Health Care will be there to answer all of your questions. Let’s be pro-active and show up for ourselves. Let’s get covered by January 1, 2014!

I hope you can share our vision and commitment to the future of artists and realize that this is the beginning of bigger and better things to come. Please, let everyone in your band, studio, troop, theatre, performance, your venue, your email list, social network, etc. know about this meeting.

As we talk about Affordable Care, we will celebrate those who are no longer with us who lost the healthcare battle and died of HIV/AIDS. We will celebrate them with a showing  of a selection of the 700 patches (see image above) from Danny Tisdale, IUME and students at Wadleigh Secondary School for the Performing & Visual Arts and organizations in Harlem as part of the Harlem AIDS Blanket (HarlemAIDSblanket.wordpress.com).

See you Saturday, December 7th  at the Emblem Health Neighborhood Care Center, from 2 pm to 4 pm, 215 West 125th Street, Harlem, NY (www.ehnc.com/Locations/Harlem.aspx).
