On June 29, 2022, over 150 Fresh Air children, ages 8 to 15, boarded buses from Denny Farrell Riverbank State Park in New York City to enjoy free Fresh Air sleepaway camps in Mid-Hudson Valley.
Fresh Air is celebrating its return to in-person camping on a limited basis with safety protocols in place.
Children from Harlem to Hollis waved goodbye to parents, brothers and sisters and headed for fun-filled outdoor adventures.
In 2020 and 2021, due to the challenges presented by the pandemic, The Fund was not able to operate its traditional camp or volunteer host family programs and developed new in-person, virtual and hybrid summer programs to support New York City youth.
In 2022, Fresh Air celebrates its return to in-person programs at Fund sleepaway camps and Fresh Air family reunions with volunteer host families along the East Coast.
The Fund will also continue its Summer Spaces program where children learn new skills and have fun at neighborhood play spaces, along with Family Wellness visits to camp, and its highly-successful Summer Teen Academy.
Since its founding in 1877, The Fresh Air Fund, a not-for-profit youth development organization, has provided free life-changing summer experiences in the outdoors to more than 1.8 million children from New York City’s underserved communities.
Young people also participate in year-round leadership, career exploration and educational programs. For more information, visit www.FreshAir.org.
