June 6, 2022

To mark Global Running Day on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, New York Road Runners (NYRR) offered opportunities for people of all ages and abilities.

They all had the opportunity to participate in a celebratory Open Run in Morningside Park, a Rising New York Road Runners Field Day for youth at Icahn Stadium, and a virtual 5K for those around the world.

Global Running Day, held annually on the first Wednesday of June, 2022, is a worldwide celebration of running that encourages everyone of all ages and abilities to get moving and be active.

Here are more details from NYRR’s Global Running Day Events:

NYRR Open Run: A special NYRR Open Run, which is a free, community-led fun run and walk, took place this morning with more than 100 runners at Morningside Park in Manhattan to kick off the day.

The NYRR Open Run program launched in 2015, and since then has had more than 18,000 participants across the five boroughs.

There are currently 13 Open Run sites operating, with two more expected to relaunch this year coming out of the pandemic.

Rising New York Road Runners Field Day: Nearly 1,000 kids from the Rising New York Road Runners program across the five boroughs came together for fun running and fitness activities to celebrate the day at Icahn Stadium.

Virtual NYRR Global Running Day 5K: Those who are not in NYC have been able to join in on the celebrations by taking part in the Virtual NYRR Global Running Day 5K anytime from May 28 – June 5.

Kids looking to participate virtually have the option to sign up for the Virtual Global Running Day 1 Mile Kids Run during the same time frame.
