With a number of Foot Lockers in Harlem, in June 2020, Foot Locker, Inc. announced its Leading Education & Economic Development (“LEED”) initiative.
The company’s $200 million, five-year commitment to support the Black community through education and economic development.
This commitment is a strategic shift across the organization, realigning how the company buys, and partners with Black creators, businesses, and organizations.
In the year since the company’s CEO publicly made the pledge, the company has invested $35 million in Black communities nationwide and launched a variety of initiatives to spur Black business, including:
- $10 million invested in Black-owned brands and creators
- $3 million multi-city grant program to empower youth and invest in BIPOC communities
- 45 new partnerships with Black brands and creators
These are but a few of the efforts made as an extension of their commitment to fight racial inequality and operate as an inclusive and diverse organization.
It’s also a recognition of just how influential Black Culture has been in the evolution of Sneaker Culture.
