The Janus Property Company is pleased to announce that HYPOTHEkids (Hk) has expanded from its existing space at Harlem Biospace in the Manhattanville Factory District.
Space has been dedicated office at Janus’s 460 West 126th Street across the street.
Hk will use the space for administrative purposes including the distribution of science kits, called HYPOTHEkits, to community-based organizations serving students throughout New York.
“Especially during the pandemic, access to educational resources has been so strained for many New York families. We’re thrilled to be a part of HYPOTHEkids’s growth as they expand beyond our life science incubator,” said Scott Metzner, Principal, The Janus Property Company. “Since our founding, one of our goals has been to create opportunities for the widest array of user groups, paying special attention to locally-based not-for-profit organizations.”
Operating primarily out of the Harlem Biospace incubator in the Manhattanville Factory District’s Sweets Building, Hk is a Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) education and youth talent development initiative with a mission to provide underserved students with hands-on science and engineering educational and mentorship experiences.
Hk prepares these students for the high-tech economy of the future through collaborations with Columbia University, Weill Cornell Medicine, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, Teachers College, and many of New York’s burgeoning biotech firms, as well as through a strong working relationship with New York City public schools.
“Our vision is to create a STEAM talent pipeline that is representative of the diversity of New York City,” said Christine Kovich, HYPOTHEkids Executive Director. “Our relationship with Janus has been terrific as services we provide have continued to grow during this challenging time.”
More than 12,000 students have been served through Hk’s public engagement programs, leading many students to be accepted into prestigious institutions such as Macaulay Honors College at CUNY, Columbia, Yale, and Cornell.

The Manhattanville Factory District is a 1.5 million-square-foot, a multi-phase, master-planned campus that includes extensive private and publicly-accessible outdoor space.
It spans east from Amsterdam Avenue from West 125th to West 128th Streets. It is just a few short blocks from the West Side Highway, Hudson River Park Bike Path, and the A, C, B, D, and #1 subway lines.
A major focus of the District has been building a vibrant science and creative cluster into the existing West Harlem fabric.
In addition to 460 West 126th Street, the District includes the Mink Building, Sweets Building, and the newly-constructed 200,000 rsf Malt House and 350,000 rsf Taystee Lab Building.

The design of each component of the campus addresses the architecture and scale of the neighborhood while modern lab facilities and flexible office, not-for-profit and retail space deliver on New York City’s pressing need for a well-located state-of-the-art innovation campus embedded in a walkable neighborhood.
