Art Crawl Harlem commemorates the centennial of the Harlem Renaissance, with the “Fire & Soul: 100 Years of Harlem” Art Exhibition.
The work will be on view at the Kente Royal Gallery, 2373 Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Blvd, Harlem, N.Y. from December 3, 2020 – January 3, 2021.
Co-curated by Kente Royal gallery owner and art purveyor Dodji Gbedemah and Art Historian and cultural commentator Nakia Hicks, the 4-week long exhibit features art inspired by the Black American experience over the past 100 years, providing visual commentary and the artistic interpretations of the ever-evolving state of Black people.
Spanning the Great Migration to immigration – from music, sexuality, gender identity, politics, religion, and beyond. Contemporary artists, with concentrations that vary in creative styles that range from painting and collage to photography, sculpture, digital art, quilting, architecture, portraiture, and pop art.
“The celebration of Harlem arts and culture is always a necessary endeavor. Our communities cannot exist without artists creating work that reminds us, causes us to dream, and inspires us. This exhibition will feature the best and brightest artist in the NY area.” says ArtCrawl Harlem Executive Director Ulysses Williams.
The roster of Internationally and Domestically celebrated artists include Mario Joyce Belyusar,
Sade Boyewa El, Anthony Boone, Karim Charles, Magdala Charles, Harlem World Magazine‘s Rudy Collins, Daryl Daniels, William Daniels, Ricky Day, Thomas Heath, Amber Lodman, Demarcus McGaughey, Mark McLeod, Guy Stanley Philoche, Sophisticatedcookie, Sean Patrick Watters, and Dominick Williams.
Special programming will also feature the literary works by local writers, poets, and spoken word artists who wrote submissions based on the exhibit theme.
The exhibition is made possible in part with funds from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, Upper Manhattan Empowerment Zone, New York City Dept of Cultural Affairs, and New York State Council on the Arts.
