Right On, Write Women Into History With The WomensActivism.NYC Virtual Write-In Project

August 13, 2020

Calling all storytellers, writers, wordsmiths, English majors, history buffs, and anyone who wants to celebrate the many inspiring women who have made a difference in our lives: you’re invited to write them into history!

The NYC Department of Records and Information Services/Municipal Archives is hosting a virtual writing event to mark the 100th anniversary of women gaining the right to vote on Wednesday, August 26th, 2020, the day of the ratification of the women’s suffrage amendment to the Constitution.

The event, which will take place from 1 pm to 4 pm ET, has the goal of gathering stories of women around the globe who have made a difference, from world leaders and change-makers to the everyday women who have had a positive impact on our lives. Stories can describe contemporary women or those who lived in the past. All stories will be permanently preserved by the NYC Municipal Archives to inspire future generations.

WomensActivism.NYC is an open, crowd-sourced digital archive with the goal of collecting 20,000 stories by the close of 2020. Your participation will bring us closer to this goal.

To contribute stories to WomensActivism.NYC, participants will require a computer or phone. The workshop will take place on an online platform. Directions on how to access the event will be emailed to everyone who registers here.
