Here’s a great pick by HW contributor Todd Roulette. It’s James Gavin, author and journalist most recent book, Stormy Weather: The Life of Lena Horne (Atria Books/Simon & Schuster, 2009). It was called “magnificent … gripping, marvelously written” by Liz Smith, who added: “[It] may just be one of the best biographies about show business, race, love, sex, and music ever written.”

Open to Public; refreshments will be served at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church, Harlem is the 2nd oldest black Episcopal Church in the USA. It’s Neo-Gothic architecture is a New York State landmark, designed by Vertner Tandy in 1911, the first licensed African American architect in New York State.
His forthcoming book, a biography of Peggy Lee, will also be published by Atria Books/Simon & Schuster.
