Camber Property Group, Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement (HCCI), New York City Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD)
and the New York City Housing Development Corporation (HDC) announced today that the housing lottery for 94 newly constructed affordable senior housing units at Victory Plaza in Central Harlem has opened.
Located at 11 West 118th Street in Manhattan, Victory Plaza represents best in class senior housing design including outdoor recreation areas and interior community gathering and program space. The building is 100 percent affordable featuring 136 units including 41 set aside for formerly homeless seniors.
“As we build affordable housing throughout the City it is critical to focus on vulnerable populations, such as our seniors and the formerly homeless,” said Rick Gropper, Principal and Co-founder of Camber Property Group. “Our ongoing recovery from COVID-19 will require a commitment to building a city affordable to everyone. Camber is deeply invested in the future of our city, and projects like Victory Plaza will set the example for responsible, inclusive development that improves the lives of New Yorkers.”
“There is now greater demand for more affordable housing and support for New York’s seniors and people with low-incomes,” said Louise Carroll, Commissioner, NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development. “With COVID-19 posing a greater threat to these communities, this project is helping vulnerable people live comfortably in a safe and secure environment and with the highest level of support from the community.”
Amenities available to residents at Victory Plaza include an on-site superintendent, outdoor recreation area, community space, laundry and bicycle parking. The building will feature on-site wraparound social services, provided by Harlem Congregations for Community Improvement, Inc (HCCI), addressing areas such as financial security, health and wellbeing and isolation prevention.
At least one applicant for each apartment must be at least 62 years old, and households must meet income requirements outlined in leasing materials. Half of all apartments are earmarked for residents of Manhattan, and additional apartments are set aside for disabled applicants.
The $65 million project was financed by HDC, HPD and Wells Fargo, and was designed by Aufgang Architects.
