125th Street BID continues its “Harlem Canvas For Change” project based on the protest regarding the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Michael Brown, Philando Castile and sadly many others. Last week Mac Stores and the Banana Republic offered their boarded-up storefronts for visitors to 125th Street to express their thoughts and ideas for change.
The thoughts, feelings, and ideas from the people are being photographed and will be housed on a website that is currently being developed.
Working with Columbia School of International Public Administration, these thoughts, feelings, and ideas from the people will be used to develop policies for change.
Athena Moore (above), Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer’s Director of the Manhattan Office and member of the 125th Street BID Board of Directors, dropped by to express her call for Peace, Faith and to Vote.
Policies for change resulting from the words of the people will then be used for advocacy.
Now that stores are slated to re-open on June 22, 2020, the panels will be taken down and stored. Their next step is to find permanent locations for them to be seen. Ideas can be sent to bid125thst@aol.com
