Award-winning NYC musicians Norah Jones and Suzanne Vega will perform on June 22, 2020, as part of “Music for the Soul of NYC Health + Hospital Heroes.”
The series is created by the NYC Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment, NYC Health + Hospitals and AFM Local 802.
Performance dates for well-known musicians including Questlove, AJR, Peter Yarrow (formerly of Peter Paul and Mary), and Marshall Crenshaw will be announced in the coming days.
The “Music for the Soul” series was created to inspire our heroic medical community especially the 43,000-member staff of NYC’s public hospital system, connect isolated patients to the outside world, and provide paid work for musicians who may be struggling financially. The musical series, taking place daily from 12-1 pm ET, runs through July 4, 2020.
Funded by the Laurie M Tisch Illumination Fund, the series features a daily performance on Facebook Live by a variety of professional NYC musicians (the majority from AFM Local 802) performing songs that have been requested by health workers and patients at NYC public hospitals, as well the musicians’ personal selections. Playing from home, the musicians also perform songs that local hospitals have used to celebrate patients successfully coming off ventilators.
