This October, SHAKTIBARRE will open its second location., at 2272 Adam Clayton Powell Junior Blvd in the heart of Harlem, New York. The ever-so-loved yoga/barre studio for women is growing out of its Brooklyn neighborhood and expanding to a new burrow. SHAKTIBARRE was founded in 2016 by two female entrepreneurs, Corinne Wainer and Shauny Lamba, whom had a vision to create a safe space for all women to come together in the fitness vertical. The Harlem-bound 1200 sq. ft. studio and community space will open its doors late October / early November 2018.
“SHAKTIBARRE was also awarded amongst SELF Magazine’s ‘9 Women Making a Difference in Wellness’, of which we are very proud of.”
SHAKTIBARRE was founded on an accessible, sustainable wellness mission so that all women could have access to barre and yoga classes. This system was developed on sliding scale pricing based on income. For all who are interested can simply apply at shakitbarre.com and will be notified if approved within 72 hours of application. This mission has not only worked but has raised awareness in the wellness community. “We’ve welcomed over 15,698 unique clients, achieved a 4.8 star rating across 11,064 reviews, and raised an additional $35,255 via Indiegogo for the Brooklyn location,” says Corinne, “SHAKTIBARRE was also awarded amongst SELF Magazine’s ‘9 Women Making a Difference in Wellness’, of which we are very proud of.”
The new Harlem location has an incredible space-cost ratio; that is to say, there is one room for movement vs. two and every inch of the new location has been designed to promote community engagement. There is a boudoir style dressing room with an open format so a few women can get ready for class or post-glass gatherings together if they choose.
“…some of our teaching team from Harlem is from the area as they can provide an authentic embodiment of the neighborhood,”
SHAKTIBARRE Harlem will play host to its new location by way of some of its hand-picked teachers from within the Harlem community. “Our goal is to continue listening to each community we venture into, and to teach from that point forward,” says Shauny, “To elaborate, some of our teaching team from Harlem is from the area as they can provide an authentic embodiment of the neighborhood,” she explains.
