Create A Mural Contest at Corner Social in Harlem

Corner Social, a new Harlem restaurant is seeking proposals from Harlem based visual artists to design and execute a mural on the exterior of their building located at 321 Lenox Avenue.

Submissions for the mural should be professionally designed and reflect Harlem’s great legacy of arts and culture as seen through the eyes of the artist. The mural may be abstract in design, or it may depict well-known Harlem personalities and/or venues, community leader, art & music or current local issues which offer a positive reflection of the local community. But no political issues.

Background:

Corner Social is a gathering spot where friends, co-workers, neighbors and families can count on quality food and drinks at reasonable prices. It’s a place where you can slow down time and enjoy life with good food, good drinks, good music, and most of all good company. It’s a place where the simple pleasure of being in Central Harlem – one of New York City’s greatest and most culturally rich neighborhoods – can truly be enjoyed.

Corner Social accommodates about 100 people inside and 52 in the outdoor café during the summer season. It has a twenty-two foot long bar with 18 traditional and craft beers on tap, and a great cocktail and wine menu. Corner Social opens for lunch, brunch and dinner and eventually for breakfast as well, serving a wide variety of American fare.

In terms of amenities, the restaurant has a fireplace, ample banquette and communal seating, flat screen televisions as well as projectors and dropdown screens for special events. There is also WiFi and DJs and occasional live music during evenings.

Surface/Location:


Mural will be created on a red-brick wall approximately 23’10″ X 15’6″ in dimension.

Work should be created with oil-based paints and properly sealed upon completion.

Surface is located on the northwest corner of Malcolm X Boulevard (aka 7th Avenue) and 125th Street in Harlem.

Submissions:

Artists should submit three previous, relevant work samples, along with an up-to-date resume and artist statement. Artist must submit a total of three (3) professional references.

Artists may submit as an individual or may propose work as a team of artists working to complete one collaborative design.
