Harlem’s Rep. Adriano Espaillat Statement On House Passage Of Budget Agreement

February 9, 2018

Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13) released the following statement today on House passage of a budget agreement and end of the second Republican shutdown:

“Following Republican passage of their fifth stop-gap, short term Continuing Resolution, which did not include a solution for DACA, I vow to continue my fight for DREAMERS,” said Rep. Espaillat (NY-13). “My Republican colleagues talk about investing in our economy and investing in our future – yet, they have failed to invest in the future of more than 800,000 young people who are making a tremendous impact in our nation every single day.

“DREAMERS are veterans, teachers, nurses, college students, and DREAMERS are also MacArthur Genius Fellows. I have witnessed these young people buy their first cars, graduate from college, embark on competitive and demanding career paths, start families, buy their first homes and give back to our communities.

“The pretense of good faith that we have heard from Republicans to address DACA has been a tremendous abandonment of responsibility to represent the needs and interest of their constituents. DREAMERS – every man, woman, and child – embody the promise, hopes and ideals of this nation. It’s time Republican leaders do more than offer their regular spate of trite talking points – and join Democrats to honor their obligation in a bipartisan agreement to secure the futures of DREAMERS and of our country.”
