Total Equity Now’s Harlem Holiday Book Drive!

November 25, 2015

harlem book event1Total Equity Now and their 4th Annual Literacy Across Harlem Holiday Book Drive partners ask that you to give a different kind of gift this holiday season: the gift of reading!

From Tuesday, December 1, through Friday, December 18(*), you’ll have the opportunity to bring #RockThoseReads joy to hundreds of children and adults living in homeless shelters, havens for victims of domestic violence, and other transitional-living facilities–all here in Harlem.

It’s easy:

1. Set aside those new or like-new books that you or your children enjoyed but would do much more good in the hands of your neighbors than on your shelves.

2. Make your way to one of our Holiday Book Drive partners listed below (and here, in a PDF)and encourage others to do the same. If have or work with young people, bring them along and turn it into a service project. (If you are a young person, organize your friends, classmates, and siblings to collect books for this effort.)

3. Feel good knowing that Harlem children, parents, and other community members with limited means to buy new books will enjoy your reading treasures over the holidays and beyond!

Last year, you donated 1,939 new and like-new books through the Holiday Book Drive. This year, our goal is 2,000, which will push us past 10,000 new and like-new books donated in just three and a half years.
