1. Apollo Theatre visit

2. Levain Bakery

Abyssinian Baptist Church represents the first African-American church in New York. The complex has been in operation since 1808 with an initial Manhattan location. 4. Sylvia’s Soul Food

If you prefer soul food, Harlem offers an extraordinary location – Sylvia. The venue was launched in 1955 as a core Harlem restaurant. People are mainly attracted by delicious food including tender ribs, classic sides, juicy fried chicken, collard greens, black-eyed peas and more. 5. Northern Central Park Visit

If you like learning about African civilizations, you can visit the branch of NYPL and have a great time. The center features numerous exhibitions of black people’s culture and history. You can enter the complex free of charge or visit the gallery and shop from Monday to Saturday.

8.Striver’s Row Walk

One of the amazing projects in Harlem appears in form of 130-row houses. The complex has been built in the period from 1891-93. Three architecture companies were responsible for building the complex including McKim, White, and Mead. At the moment, Striver’s Row represents the home of professional people including lawyers, administrators, and doctors. Some of the famous residents are W. C. Handy, Stepin Fetchit, Harry Wills, Fletcher Henderson, Vertner Tandy, Dr. Louis T. Wright, Bill “Bojangles” Robinson and Eubie Blake.

9.Studio Museum Tour

The Studio is opened in 1968 as the place which focuses on the work of international and local artists who originally come from Africa. The complex derived inspiration from black cultures. The Studio can be visited Thursday to Sunday for only $7.

10. Renaissance Ballroom & Casino

The Renaissance Ballroom & Casino began life as a theater, playing host to dance marathons, films, boxing matches, and more. And while today gamblers can play roulette at both land and online casinos, during Prohibition-era Harlem it was heavily policed.

Once Prohibition ended in 1933, the Renaissance flourished as a casino as well as a thriving music venue. The Renaissance saw more than its fair share of jazz artists, including Cootie Williams and Fletcher Henderson.

Known affectionately by its patrons as the “Renny”, the venue is unique in that it was both built and owned by African-Americans. Indeed, during the Twenties, the Renny became known as a ‘Black Mecca’.
